West Coast Tour

17 01 2011

This morning, Lord willing, I’ll board a plane in Dallas, and this afternoon, I’ll land in Seattle.

“Why are you going to Seattle, Jeanne?”

Thank you for asking! I know it’s not polite to brag, but this week I’ve got a pretty sweet gig. I’m embarking on a west coast tour.

“Really? Wow! Is it a book signing tour? Will you be speaking?”

Oh, no. (You ask such great questions.) It’s much more exciting than that. More than thirty organizations that fight human trafficking are gathering in California’s Bay Area January 21-22 for Freedom Summit 2011, and Jubilee has been asked to perform at the opening event. They’ll also speak to conferees about the band’s abolitionist efforts and their vision for Arts Aftercare. Sara Groves will be performing at the conference as well, and other speakers include Condoleeza Rice and David Batstone of Not For Sale (not that I’d dream of name dropping, which is almost as bad as bragging).

Anyway, the band figured, hey, if we’re going all the way to San Francisco, we might as well schedule a west coast tour. So they did! Here’s the agenda:

January 20: Simple Pleasures Cafe in San Francisco, CA, 8:00 PM
January 21-22: Freedom Summit Conference in Fremont, CA (must be registered to attend)
January 23: The Abbey in Santa Cruz,  CA, 8:30 PM
January 24: Bethany University in Santa Cruz, CA, 8:00 PM
January 27: George Fox University in Newberg, OR, 7:00 PM
January 31: “To See You Well” album release concert at The Triple Door Mainstage in Seattle, 7:30 PM (doors at 5:30)

If you live anywhere near one of these locations, you should definitely plan to come to a show. Full details here. And, if you come to the album release concert, the price of admission also gets you a CD, plus it’s a fund-raising event for IJM. Triple win!

“That sounds great, Jeanne. Thanks so much for letting us know. But, um, . . . you still haven’t told us what any of this has to do with you.”

Oh, right. I suppose you would be wondering about that. Once again, I hate to brag, but I have the best job of all. I get to be TOUR NANNY! And that means I get to hang out with

HER!

I’ll also be the official tour photographer and hope to be able to post regular updates here and on Jubilee’s blog. And then there’s the pure delight of traveling with these awesome, fun, talented people. I love them all deeply and know from experience that the conversation will be rich, the laughter genuine, and the music magnificent. Precious gifts indeed, but it’s hardly fair to ask anything to compete with . . .

HER!

Needless to say, I’m excited. If any of you are going to be at the Freedom Summit or can make it to one of Jubilee’s shows, I’d love to meet you! I should be easy enough to find. Look for the small woman with the big camera who is happily hanging out with  . . .

HER!

Such fun times. Today I’m thankful for these gifts . . .

#11. Harper Sparrow’s cheeks (and that I’ll be kissing them in a few hours!)
#12. Hearts and voices in harmony
#13. People with a passion for justice
#14. Extended time with beloveds
#15. A generous husband who doesn’t begrudge my going
#16. A nice camera to photograph the tour. And, of course, I may have to take at least a few (hundred) shots of . . .

HER!

I told you it was a sweet gig. Can you honestly blame me for a wee bit of bragging? Besides, you were the one asking all those questions. Hope to be back soon with photos and tales of adventure! Until then . . .

Visit Ann Voskamp’s “A Holy Experience” to find out what she and others are thankful for today.

And while you’re out and about, stop by L.L. Barkat’s “On, In, and Around Mondays,” where you’re invited to write from where you are. L.L. says,  “Tell us what is on, in, around (over, under, near, by…) you. Feel free to write any which way… compose a tight poem or just ramble for a few paragraphs. But we should feel a sense of place. Would you like to try?” If so, click this button:

I’ve only inhaled that sweet baby breathe.
Promise to catch up here today.
I leave the need to read with open arms blogs to the quieter hours, and they have been very scarce the last few weeks. Life

love you , Jeanne.

Love you, too! You know you are welcome here whenever you can make it by. I hope your “noisy” hours have been filled with all sorts of good things.

You are too funny!
I’m a little bit jealous as my favorite Christian singer of ALL time is Sara Groves. Tell her hi for me. =D Sounds like an awesome tour!
