Say cheese

15 04 2004

Right now Scott Brunner, a photographer from the Marshall News Messenger, is taking pictures of me as I write. Talk about feeling like a Supermodel! (A real one, that is, as opposed to someone who trains young children to call her by that name.) Click, click, click. These pics are supposed to accompany an article announcing an author signing at Promise Christian bookstore, which incidentally is being held on April 24 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. You’re invited! Please come if you are going to be anywhere near the Marshall area. Even if you have no use for a gift book called You and Me, Sister, come by anyway and say howdy. It should be lots of fun, and they’ll be serving refreshments, too.

The newspaper article will also include information about the book I’m now finishing, which will carry more interest with the community, because people are familiar with that story and many of them are part of it. Yeah. So. He’s still just clicking away, and I feel weird. But there you go.

Um. I’m trying to look natural here, but I’m having trouble not laughing. Meanwhile he is moving a mirror so he can get a different angle. This is actually kinda fun. I’ve never been one to shun attention, if you haven’t noticed.

If any of you take the Marshall News Messenger, check out this Sunday’s edition, and you should see the article (for which I was interviewed Monday afternoon) and the pictures that are now being shot even as I write. He’s taking shots of my hands now. What a hoot! Ha ha. I guess I’ll just keep writing off the top of my head. I don’t know what else to do. I hope he’s not taking pictures of the computer screen, b/c if he is, he’s getting this post, which probably isn’t what a professional author who is preparing for an author signing should be writing. But I really can’t focus on editing my real manuscript while the camera clicks. I mean! He’s taken at least 50 shots already! They’re digital, which is nice for him. He doesn’t haven’t to wait till he gets them developed to see if he got any good ones.

Okay. What else. I’m running out of things to say about this. But I don’t want to just sit here doing nothing. Oops . . . here we go to take some in a different setting . . .

~~~~~~
Well. He’s gone now, with who-knows-how-many pictures. Hundreds. Me at the computer, me holding the sister book, me standing profile in the background through a doorway beyond a wall where Jacob’s sr. picture hangs in the foreground. (This guy has a great eye for composition!) Me playing “Jacob’s Song” on the piano. (I played and sang the whole thing for him, and he just clicked away and away and away!) I must say all this made for an interesting hour.
I do hope everyone will come to the signing, so I won’t sit by myself looking like a pathetic loser. I’ll love you forever if you do! I’m getting back to work now. Bye.
you might
want to check the copy before it goes to print. The Messenger is not exactly typo free and lots of interesting mistakes can be made with just your last name 🙂
Have fun, Supermodel! Remember your fans from before you were big enough to have book signings 🙂
We love you
I’m gonna take my chances
I like the reporter who interviewed me. I enjoy what she writes, so I’m not too worried. And I also like the pictures Scott Bruner takes. He’s very creative and really does have a great eye for composition. I sincerely complimented them both, and they both expressed their appreciation.
As for my being “big enough” for book signings or anything else, let’s not worry about that. I’m thankful for these opportunities, but I have no trouble keeping it all in perspective. There are much more important things happening in the world.
Thanks for loving me. I love you, too!
Guess I’ll have to start wearing my sunglasses in public. Oh the trials of small-town fame!
(I’m know I’m a dork, but the photo shoot was fun! heh heh.)
Noooo!
I’ll be out of town April 24. Going to regional UIL.
But I’ll be there in spirit!
This is wonderful! Keep writing! Don’t stop!
I wouldn’t go straight to famous, there, Sparky. But, hey . . . come to the signing and you can get my autograph!
Re: Noooo!
Heh. Funny thing. Lots of people have been telling me they’re going to be out of town that day.
Oh, well. I appreciate your being there in spirit. But I probably won’t talk to “you,” because people already think I’m crazy.
Thanks for the encouragement. :o)
hey! yer famous! WHOOO HOOOOO!!! 😉 Congrats! That’s excellent! I hope your book signing goes well! Someone said in Poets and Writer’s Magazine: “The best place to be alone with your thoughts and have time to write is at your book signing.” LOL! I hope yours is hopelessly crowded and you have NO time to write.
At least it’s at a bookstore. I can always read!
Thanks for the enthusiasm (you’re always great about that!) and well wishes. I love the quote! I hadn’t thought of that. I’ll have to take some chapters to edit. :o)
Re: I’m gonna take my chances
Was it Mrs. Derouen or who? And you will have to save a copy for me to see.
Don’t you take the paper?
Yes, it was she. Do you know her?
Re: Don’t you take the paper?
Yes it was Mrs. Derouen who helped me along the path to claim my fame. If you had asked her if she knew me, she would have said, “Oh, you know Jesse? He’s such a nice young man! And so talented!” And then you would have to spend hours talking about your own favorite person on earth.
No we don’t get the Marshall paper… too sensationalistic for my taste, anyway. I’m surprised that a famous goddess like yourself (yes, you’ve upgraded!) would take time to read local news… I guess you must be one of those nice community-minded goddesses. How humble of you.
I’m blushing
Oh my! Really, now, Jesse. A famous goddess? Last time I checked, fame and goddessness were absent from my resume.
How did Mrs. Derouen help you along the path to claim your fame? (Wait a minute. Looks like you’re the one with fame here, mister.)
Re: I’m blushing
Don’t you remember that full-page article on me on the front of the living section a while back when I released my stupid Telepathic Membrane CD? Yeah she wrote that. If you never saw it I have copies but I don’t like that CD any more so it doesn’t really matter. But yeah, I am famous…
Oh yes, and did I fail to mention your radiant beauty as well??? I figured it was a given but ya never know! LOL!
Yes, of course!
I did see that article! I didn’t realize she’d written it, but I suppose she probably does all the front page living section articles. That’s where the story about my book signing is supposed to appear this week.
Why do you think your Telepathic Membrane CD is stupid?
Re: Yes, of course!
Yeah she’s in charge of that section. Nice lady, she! Anyway, that CD was ok for what it was… but my style has changed so much and I’ve gotten a lot better since then so it’s not something I try to market to the general public any more.
One day I will realize my true calling in life… Until then people will just have to ridicule me for not being able to do what I love to do well enough. 🙂
SUPAH STAR!
Sorry I’m a little late, I havn’t been reading much lately. But CONGRATS! Your signing will go wonderfully and your hand will ACHE! If I were closer I would come for an autograph.
It’s so cool to “know” famous people that I don’t really “know” , ya “know”? LOL. Sorry so silly, but CONGRATULATIONS! And can I find this masterpiece at bookstores near me?
Re: SUPAH STAR!
Good timing! I just got home from the signing, turned on the computer, and there was your message! :o)
I think it went well. The store sold 40+ books during the signing, and I got to visit with a lot of people. I’ve never done an author signing before, so I didn’t know what to expect. It was fun!
You can find this “masterpiece” (ha ha) pretty much anywhere. Barnes & Noble, Borders, Amazon.com. If they don’t have it on the shelf, they can order it. It’s called You and Me, Sister by Dee Appel and Jeanne Damoff. (I’m Jeanne, by the way.)
Thanks so much for your enthusiasm. I’m not at all famous, though. Not even. But it’s nice to feel special for a day.
