Her Story

20 10 2004

“It doesn’t have to be this way.”

She glanced up from her book. “What?”

His fiery gaze unnerved her. “It doesn’t have to be this way.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” She pretended to read but felt the heat of his eyes.

“You wish your life could be as exciting as that story. You wish your heart skipped a beat when your husband entered the room . . . that the sound of his voice or his scent or his nearness in the dark sent a thrill to the core of your being. You’re comfortable, but you aren’t content.”

She didn’t know what to say.

“It doesn’t have to be this way.”

She forced her eyes to his. The fire had dulled to a patient glow. “What am I supposed to do?”

“Return to your first love. Remember your story. You’ve forgotten how beautiful it is.”

She closed the book and scrutinized him. “How do you know?”

He smiled. “Because I wrote it.”

Something stirred beside her, and she awoke. She turned toward the steady rhythm of his breathing. Pink fingers of early dawn reached through the blinds and traced the shape of his strong jaw. She followed its line with her finger, and his eyes fluttered open.

A sleepy smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. “What?”

She looked deep into the eyes that knew her best and beheld a soul that loved her enough to die for her. A warm tear slid onto her pillow. She smiled. “Nothing. I just wanted to touch you.”

He leaned toward her. His kiss was like a whisper. Then he lay his head beside hers on her pillow.

She felt his breath on her cheek and sensed his calm strength. An ache rose in her heart — a priceless beauty bought by a thousand confidences and a million shared joys and sorrows.

She smiled in the soft glow of morning. Today everything would be new.

Again.

Okay, this has nothing to do with your entry, which is lovely. I think I set up an account. But I’m rather clueless as to what I’m doing. It’s that old “library” feeling. Lois

Re: Whisper

“Whisper”? Did you just kiss me? :o)

Look at you, Miss Entreact! You have a user name, so I guess you must have been successful. Give yourself a gold star!

Are you going to post fascinating entries for the world to read? Please do. I, for one, appreciate the workings of your misunderstood brain.

About this name . . . Is it “Ent react” as in a political movement among Tolkein’s gentle forest keepers? Or is it “Entre act” as in a sort of Frenchy “interact”? Or something else? Please enlighten.

Shake off the shackles of your library-induced phobia and come play in the cyber playground. I promise I’ll pick you for my team.

Re: Whisper

Shackles are off and I feel so F R E E. I’ve spent way too much time trying to figure out the picture thing. Entreact is supposed to be suggesting a sort of between acts state of being. Even though my spelling of Entreact is incorrect, it still evokes the general theme that I wish to convey. You see, if I’m playing in the cyber playground then I’m not pursuing anything to do with my acting career, therefore I must be in between acts of, ummm, acting.
