Story Time!

10 09 2005

J. Mark Bertrand is one of my Master’s Artist compadres. In my mind I always refer to him as “the scholarly one.” Not that the other Master’s Artists are nitwits, but we each sort of bring our own seasoning to the sauce, and let’s just say Mark serves up a more cerebral stew than some of us. He’s also a man in love with words and art and God. I admire him for all these qualities, but more to the present point, I find his writing a pure delight.

And now the good news! Mark published an intriguing short story in the latest edition of The New Pantagruel called “Midafternoon Apocalypse.” You can find his wonderful words here.

Let me know what you think. Enjoy!

What a great story, thanks for suggesting it. I have just returned from my trip to USA, well not just but it still feels like yesterday. I met some people from Writers Group and et al, it was a wonderful time, I felt truly blessed.

the beloved Dr. Hochschild (who taught me the first half of History of Philosophy) also writes for the New Pantegruel. i must say it is quite the classy establishment, though it is all a bit beyond my scope.

You are what to a nitwit? Or is this half of an analogy? “As the sun is to the moon, so I am to a nitwit.”

This is just too deep for me. Both your allusiveness and your elusiveness mark you as pure genius. Thanks, o brilliant one, for condescending to bestow a comment upon this, my humble journal. I will always remember today for its pivotal significance, as I live henceforth in the enlightenment of your words. Selah.

By the way, this one sounds best with a bluesy feel.

Glad you enjoyed Mark’s story! And I’m also glad you had a wonderful trip to the U.S. of A. What places did you visit?

Read Mark’s story when you get a chance. I think you’ll enjoy it.

He was on Wheaton’s campus this summer teaching a session for Worldview Academy. If you saw a MINI Cooper that looked just like mine parked on campus before you left for England, that may have been his.
