My Dinner with Jacob Action Figures: Swedish Meatballs

17 04 2010

I’ve been in Seattle less than a week and have already “dined” at the IKEA cafeteria twice–a culinary extravagance due to a former garage that is in the finishing stages of becoming a very chic carriage house. Yesterday Grace ordered the Swedish meatball plate, which comes with a generous portion of meatballs in gravy, a mound of mashed potatoes, and Lingonberry preserves on the side as dipping sauce. She couldn’t finish all her meatballs, so she offered them to George. He ate several, then asked Jacob if he wanted one of the last two. Jacob stabbed one with his fork and the following conversation ensued:

George: “Hey! That was the one I wanted.”

Jacob: (no comment, but reaches out his fork to take the other meatball as well)

George: “Oh, so that’s how it is. Anything else I can get for you, Mr. Hoglett?”

Jacob: “Yes.” (calmly places the second meatball on his plate) “A little peace and quiet.”

Oh my, I do love that boy. In other news, four days until Harper Sparrow’s official due date. It’s about to be party central around here. Jacob better enjoy his peace and quiet while he can.
