Day One in Seattle: Molly Moon’s

6 08 2010

Here are a few photos from our adventure last night:

The sign outside Molly Moon’s Ice Cream in Wallingford. Molly Moon’s introduced a new flavor, Bumberberry, in honor of the Bumbershoot Festival which will take place Labor Day weekend. (Bob Dylan is headlining this year!) Fremont Abbey Arts Center asked Curtis and Grace to busk in front of the shop last night to promote the festival and the flavor.

Molly Moon’s uses organic ingredients from local farms and dairies, and they’re famous for some of their unusual flavors, like Salted Caramel, Honey Lavender, Balsamic Strawberry, and Raspberry Hibiscus Sorbet. This photo shows the line extending down the sidewalk. The shop holds about a dozen people and the rest wait patiently outside. Every day.

Like the rest of Seattle, Molly Moon’s is dog friendly.

Curtis explaining to the crowd why he and Grace had been invited to sing. As always, he also mentioned that they’re part of Jubilee and the work IJM does to fight modern-day slavery.

Harper listening to her parents’ beautiful harmonies, something she’s been doing since before she was born. (At three months, she’s already sung a few notes herself, imitating Grace!) Last night they stuck to acoustic guitar, maracas, Brazilian jazz and some Reggae. It was amazing.

George (aka Grand-père) walking Harper when she got fussy. It was way past her bedtime. The price you pay for being the offspring of rock stars. 🙂

Fun, funky light fixture inside the shop.

One last busking shot. I like the cut out letters above the window, the sign reflection, and I thought you needed to see Grace’s sweet face.

I wish I had a picture of our ice cream (served in homemade waffle cones they are constantly making on site to keep up with customer demand), but I completely forgot about my camera once I had my cone in hand. I wonder why.

I’m hoping to post photos and stories daily. We’ll see. Meanwhile, I think I need to go for a long, long walk. I want to make the most of this lovely, cool weather, and (more to the point) I see another trip to Molly Moon’s Ice Cream in my immediate future.
